Black owned businesses with no employees in the United States increased 19.2% between 2012 and 2017 totaling 2,951,000 Black firms. Businesses with no employees refers to non-employer firms (ex: sole-proprietorships/ partnerships with no paid employees). However this data for 2017 does not include nonemployer C-corporations, which represent approximately 2% of all nonemployer businesses

Black Business ownership is defined as having 51 percent or more of the stock or equity in the business.

Revenue

Receipts generated by Black-owned businesses with no employees during the same time period increased from $46.8 billion in 2012 to $65.7 billion in 2017.

The top earning industries in Black owned businesses with no employees are in Transportation/Whare-housing, Healthcare Social assistance, and the businesses in the “Other services (except public administration)” category.
